Hot Job, Cool House

I’m not going to lie, I had a pretty rough childhood.

My parents were put in prison when I was only ten years old, and my siblings and I were placed in foster care.

I remember bouncing from house to house for eight years until I was out on my own. I got my first job, and it wasn’t pleasant, but at least, it was a job. I worked on a farm basically just cleaning up after the cows and horses. I worked a couple other jobs before getting into a glass making company. I started out just doing secretarial work for the company, but eventually, I was trained through an apprenticeship, and I was able to work in the factories. Although this was hard work, it paid very well. The hardest part what the job was actually just working in very warm conditions. I remember just pouring down sweat everyday. It was almost unbearably hot at times. Lunch break was the only time while on the clock that I got any relief from the heat of the job. Something that helped me tremendously was making sure my house was nice and cool for when I got home from work. I set my air conditioner at the lowest temperature with the fan blowing on high. My house felt like an ice box to most people, but to me, it felt amazing after working in that hot factory all day long. I gave the idea to some of my buddies at work, and they told me later than having a cold house made a huge difference for them as well.
