This winter has been very mild and I have been extremely happy about this.
We have only had one ice storm and one snow storm.
I have only had to plow my driveway once this year. I haven’t had to shovel at all this winter. I am not complaining there! As I was watching the news last night I saw that in the next few days we were supposed to be getting negative thirty degree temperatures. I couldn’t believe this. I thought we were going to be done with the really cold winter since we were already in the first week of March. I was afraid that due to these cold temperatures my house was going to be negatively affected by this. I remember my dad telling me when I first got my house that it was very important that when it got really cold out to make sure that my pipes didn’t freeze. This could cause some serious problems. By doing this I would have to keep my thermostat up higher and keep my heat up more than I normally would. By turning up the temperature this will project heat energy through my floors allowing my pipes to not get too cold. This is a no brainer fact, but a lot of people don’t know about this stuff. Luckily my dad was very smart when it came to plumbing and HVAC knowledge. I had to remind my elderly neighbor to keep her thermostat higher than normal due to the freezing cold temperatures.
