I guess I was always under the impression that it would just run forever without any problems
Almost thirty years ago we bought a run down house on the outskirts of town. Many people thought we were crazy for doing so but my husband and I had a vision for the place. We knew that with time and money we could revive the old place to its former glory. At the turn of the century it was a beautiful mansion that hosted parties for the rich and famous. Once the owners died the place sat vacant for almost five years before we purchased it. Time and lack of utilities really took a toll on the place. At least the water was shut off so no flooding took place. The biggest problem was the fact that heat and humidity had caused severe damage to the walls and floorboards. Anyway, that is all history now. We knew that we needed to install a new HVAC system first thing to start getting the place back in shape. We installed a boiler for heat and used portable air conditioners for the summer months. We went with a boiler because it would not need constant maintenance and we could simply shut it off during the summer and back on for the colder months. We liked the fact that it was a cleaner way to heat as well. The other day my wife asked me why we never had anyone come to tune up the boiler. She said that she had read that problems with the holding tank or burner could happen and could not recall ever having it checked out. I guess I was always under the impression that it would just run forever without any problems. Now I am second guessing that idea. I will be contacting our HVAC dealer in town to see what they say about the whole thing.
