Doom and gloom friend goes overboard with HVAC

I truly love my best friend, but she’s one of those humans who preferentially panics.

She likes to feed her brain the most terrifying information possible and then ruminate over all of the danger she feels.

Unfortunately, as one of the only people that she speaks to, I hear a lot of doom and gloom from my buddy. I always do my best to balance out her pessimism with realistic optimism, but sometimes I get too worn down. Recently, this has been the case when we’ve been talking about indoor air quality and immune system health. I made the mistake of mentioning to my pal that your indoor air quality is directly linked to your overall immune system and respiratory health. Of course, she started looking at terrifying articles online about airborne contaminants, immunosuppressants, and the direct link between poor HVAC equipment and coronavirus. I doubt that these articles are highly reputable, but she is now obsessed with indoor air quality. Everyday she has been telling me about new air filters that she’s found, new air purification systems that are on the market, and even UV lights that disinfect your indoor air. I’m glad that she is taking her respiratory health seriously and improving her indoor air quality overall, but I worry about her ability to fund these HVAC upgrades. It seems like she has the local HVAC technician at her house every other week to install a new piece of air handling equipment. I have a feeling that once this pandemic passes, she’ll be desperately complaining about the expensive heating and cooling debt that she has racked up.
