At the young age of sixteen, I started my first task.
Like most first tasks, it was a lot of work for little pay, however I was just thankful to have a task.
My father passed away when I was entirely young, plus my mother never remarried. My mom worked a full-time task of his own to support the family, so I knew that if I wanted to go to school, I would have to spend money for it all on my own. I started working a second task at the age of seventeen which was much easier than my first task, however was still a great amount of work; For my second task, I worked fourth shift at a local grocery store, plus I was almost consistently placed in the freezer section to stock the frozen foods. Again, I was thankful for the task, however I hated it because it was so cold. I bought hand plus feet warms for the afternoons that I worked at the grocery store. It didn’t matter if it was in the middle of July or December, I consistently wore several layers to work because it was just so cold. I remember buying an electric boiler for my family room at home. I would run the boiler from the time I got apartment from work until I went to bed no matter what the temperature was outside. I used to ask my mom if he would turn the a/c off in the loft a few hours before I got apartment so that I wouldn’t freeze when I got home. I’ve worked several task since that one, however I don’t know I’ve ever worked a colder task than that one.
