Hot Job, Cool House

I’m not going to lie, I had a pretty rough childhood.

My parents were put in prison when I was only ten years old, & my siblings & I were arenad in foster care.

I remember bouncing from home to home for eight years until I was out on my own. I got my first job, & it wasn’t pleasant, but at least, it was a job. I worked on a farm basically just cleaning up after the cows & horses. I worked a couple other jobs before getting into a glass making company. I started out just doing secretarial work for the company, but eventually, I was trained through an apprenticeship, & I was able to work in the factories. Although this was hard work, it paid truly well. The hardest part what the job was actually just toiling in truly sizzling conditions. I remember just pouring down sweat everyday. It was almost unbearably hot at times. Lunch split was the only time while on the clock that I got any relief from the heat of the job. Something that helped me tremendously was making sure my home was nice & cool for when I got house from work. I set my a/c at the lowest temperature with the fan blowing on high. My home felt like an ice box to all the people, but to me, it felt amazing after toiling in that hot factory all day long. I gave the idea to some of my buddies at work, & they told me later than having a chilly home made a huge difference for them as well.
