I was able to afford my new home because the neighborhood is a bit questionable. I live walking distance from a really beautiful and affluent area. My street includes several abandoned homes and some that are not very well cared for. I am hoping that the growth of the community eventually reaches my neighborhood and significantly raises property values. However, at the present time, I feel a bit unsafe in the house. Arriving home after dark is unsettling. I frequently hear sirens nearby. I’ve had some issues with people loitering in my driveways. Some of my neighbors have dealt with theft and vandalism. I considered getting a dog, but I work very long hours. I didn’t like the idea of leaving the dog home alone so often. When I began researching security systems, I realized that the better option was a whole home automation system. These systems are wireless and incorporate without causing disruption. I was able to customize features to suit my budget, lifestyle and priorities. There are a lot of opportunities to increase energy savings by automating temperature control, lighting and water usage. The automation system simplifies maintenance by providing reminders to schedule service for the furnace, air conditioner, water heater, dryer and other appliances. I focused mainly on elevating the safety and security of the home. I have installed surveillance cameras and motion-activated lights around the perimeter of the property. The automation system includes sensors for glass breakage, smoke, moisture and intrusion by way of the exterior doors. I am able to control the automated door locks through an app on my phone. I can watch real time video from virtually anywhere I happen to be. If there is a break-in, an alarm sounds and the local authorities are dispatched.
