My uncle owns a local repair shop in town and when he offered me a job about ten years ago I jumped at the chance.
I could actually see myself working for him until he retired and then hopefully taking over the company some day.
He doesn’t have any kids of his own, so it was something that was a possibility. I have been a loyal employee, gone through extensive training and paid close attention to every detail of the HVAC repair business that he worked so hard to build. We recently landed a contract to maintain HVAC units in all the homes for a new mobile home park that is being designed in town. The housing complex will comprise two hundred units and will have exclusive rights to be on call to repair any of the HVAC units on the site. I learned that there are special considerations that need to be taken into account when it comes to these units and they are different from the ones in conventional homes. The units are similar in some ways to conventional residential ones but they are also similar to those found in RVs. All of this means that I will need to go through more training to make sure that I am well versed in how these systems operate. Even the ductwork is different in these units and can not be cleaned and maintained like the ones found in normal homes. The learning process will be a challenge but I am definitely up for it. With any luck I will be able to take the company into a whole new area of expertise for the next generation.
